Grand Bay Electric Case Studies: Upgrading Electrical Service and Installing EV charger in Holland, MI
Challenge
Joe purchased a new electric vehicle and needed 220-volt service and a dedicated circuit to charge the battery.
Solution
Adding an EV charging station in the garage required upgrading the home’s service panel and running a 40-amp circuit exclusively for the car.
Grand Bay’s master electrician visited the home to assess the situation and provide an estimate for the work. First, they discussed Joe’s needs and identified where in the garage to locate the charging outlet. Next, our expert examined the current electrical panel and laid out a plan for the 220 service and for running the wiring into the garage.
The project required removing some old cloth wiring that was once used for a dryer, fixing an incorrectly wired breaker, installing one-inch PVC pipe below the sliding glass door at the entry to the house and garage, pulling wires through the PVC and into the garage, installing the new outlet, and labeling the upgraded service panel.
Less than a week after Grand Bay provided an estimate, another of our friendly electricians completed the one-day project. Now Joe can easily power up his vehicle and get back on the road in no time.
